A planning example, not a mover quote

The default $120 per hour is an editable Richmond planning rate selected from public pricing research reviewed October 15, 2026. It is not a quoted rate, a verified market average, or an offer from RVATotes. Replace it with your mover's whole-crew rate.

With 5 hours, a $120 hourly crew rate, a 2-hour minimum, and a 10% to 15% time-saving scenario, the example produces about $60 to $90 in possible mover labor savings. The time-saving scenario is an internal illustration, not measured customer performance.

How the calculation works

R is the crew's hourly rate, H is the moving time selected on the slider, and M is the mover's minimum. The assumed time saved is fixed at 10% to 15%.

Baseline labor = max(H, M) × R
Possible labor after = max(M, H × (1 − assumed time saved)) × R
Possible labor savings = max(0, baseline labor − possible labor after)

We calculate the lower savings estimate using 10% less moving time and the upper using 15% less moving time. Both calculations respect your mover's minimum billable hours. The lower dollar estimate rounds down to the nearest $5; the upper rounds up to the nearest $5. Labor totals are shown to the cent. Minutes are approximate, rounded outwards to whole minutes.

When time saved may not reduce the bill

A move at the mover's minimum may cost the same even if it finishes sooner. The model assumes time above the minimum is billed proportionally; your mover's rounding rules may change the result. Truck, travel, packing, access charges, taxes, and tote rental costs are not included. This tool does not estimate long-distance weight- or mileage-based pricing, or fixed-price moves.
